The city of Budapest is the result of the union in 1873 of Buda, on the right bank of the Danube, to Pest, on the left bank. It is the capital of Hungary and its historic centre was declared a World Heritage Site in 1987.

Prior to unification, Buda was the seat of the monarchy and Pest is where you would find the shopping areas. The two are linked by the “Chain Bridge”, the Erzsébet Bridge and others like the Margarita, which also links both sides to the little island in the Danube of the same name. A beautiful place to stroll during the day with its most characteristic building being the Water Tower.
